Obituary

Wilma Alberta Austin was born to Naomi and Walter Brown on December 5, 1939, in rural chase county, Nebraska. She passed away on April 25, 2026, at her residence. Wilma’s early education was in a one-room schoolhouse, attending District 35 and later District 14. She graduated from Chase County High School in 1957, where she was an active member of 4H clubs for nine years, earning a blue ribbon her senior year.

On February 12, 1959, Wilma married Charles Amos Daniel Austin. They first settled on a farm on the south divide near Imperial. Early in her career, she worked at the Jack and Jill Grocery Store, until starting her employment with the United States Postal Service in May of 1979 until her retirement in 2008. Wilma was led to the Lord by Ora and Ruth Humphrey’s whom founded the Imperial Berean Church and Maranatha Bible Camp in Maxwell, Nebraska which cultivated her Love for the Lord and attending church.

Wilma found joy in meeting people and was deeply involved in church activities. Her favorite hobbies were closely linked to home and hearth—she loved cooking, sewing, and canning produce from her garden.

Wilma is survived by her children: William (Debbie), Diann (Dani), and Timothy. Her grandchildren: Clarissa (Tony), Lydia, Katie (Isaac), Rachel (Cody), Donatellia (Spencer), Chase (Brock), and Beau. Her great-grandchildren Dakota, Drayton, Xander, James, Stormie, Aaron, Jesse, and Kalee; as well as several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Karen.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Austin; her parents; her brothers Earl, Robert (Linda), Gilbert (Joyce), and Kenneth Brown. Also mourned are brother-in-law Arthur Austin and great-grandsons Zachary Austin and Quentin Vargas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. MT at the Imperial Berean Church, 1530 Broadway Street, Imperial. Pastors Robby Clay and Matt Maxwell to officiate. Inurnment to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Victory Village / Heart Ministries Inc. in Hutchinson, Kansas.
