Wava Evelyn Clements was born on August 7, 1924, in Imperial, Nebraska to Homer C and Caroline R “Carrie” Clements. She was the second of four children following Lois and before Shirley and Frank. She attended Imperial Grade School and later graduated from Chase County High School with the class of 1942. Homer insisted she attend college so off to Hastings she went. Her college days were cut short when the dorms closed to students so the service men could live there. She came back to Imperial to work at the AAA (FSA) office. She met Calvin Daschofsky through her sister, Shirley. He and Stanley Smith were good friends, and the guys would double date the gals, but first there were cows to milk and the girls couldn’t go until that chore was done, so the guys helped to get it done faster!
Calvin and Wava were married on Oct. 22, 1947, at the Methodist parsonage in Imperial with Stan and Shirley as their attendants. They lived on the “Banks Place” for a few years but soon moved to the farm in the southwest part of the county. Calvin farmed and worked for the county road department and Wava continued working in town until Joyce was born then she became a homemaker, rancher, and farmer, working alongside Calvin doing whatever needed to be done. Joan came along a few years later and their family was complete. Wava was also a co-Girl Scout leader, and a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial. Calvin passed away in 2013 and Wava continued living on the farm until she broke her hip in 2019, then she moved to the Imperial Heights Manor where she died peacefully on July 17, 2025, at the age of 100 years and a few weeks short of her next birthday.
She leaves to mourn her passing, daughters; Joyce (Jim) Pankonin and Joan (Doug) Wenzlick both of Imperial, along with four grandchildren; Craig (Angela) Wenzlick of CO Springs, Alicia (Daniel) Scott of Hot Sulphur Springs CO, Nathan (Megan) Wenzlick of Champion, NE, and Jacob (Amanda) Pankonin of Wauneta, NE. Four step grandchildren, Tammy Ruch of Sterling, Sherri (Bruce) Wheeler of Imperial, Jimmy Pankonin of Imperial, and Johnny (Callie) Pankonin of North Platte, plus ten great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Calvin, her parents, and siblings, Lois (Arthur) Siefkens, Shirley (Stanley) Smith, and Frank (Alice) Clements.
