Viola was baptized on November 3, 1918, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Wauneta, Nebraska and was confirmed March 20, 1932, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Viola received her formal education from St. Paul Christian School with the encouragement of Mabel Scriven. She later studied and obtained her GED, graduating on April 6, 1976.

Viola followed her husband’s lead and joined the United Methodist Church of Wauneta on October 14, 1951, being an active member until her passing. She served as President of the United Methodist Women’s Society and served on numerous committees.
