Sylvia Jean (Alsbury) Humphreys, 85, of Imperial, Nebraska, died September 10, 2026, at the Imperial Manor.

Graveside services are 2 p.m. MT Saturday, September 26 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial. Desserts (Sylvia’s favorite food) will be served after the service at Imperial Methodist Church, 420 Holland Street in Imperial.  

Memorials may be given to the Imperial Manor, Imperial Community Center, the Lied Imperial Public Library, or Imperial Methodist Church.

Sylvia was born March 30, 1941, in Imperial to Glen and Marjorie (Behlke) Alsbury. She was the oldest of four children. They lived in Nebraska until Sylvia was 3, then moved to California for some time before returning to live in Benkelman, Nebraska. The family returned to California for Sylvia’s senior year in high school. She moved back to Nebraska by herself after graduating from Dixon (California) High School and attended McCook Junior College for one year.

Sylvia married Merril Humphreys Dec. 29, 1961, in Benkelman. They had three children, Tami, Lori and Kevin.

They lived in Max and Hayes Center before moving to Imperial in 1970.

Sylvia was a stay-at-home mom until all three children were in school. She then babysat in her home for several years, was a cook at the Imperial Senior Center for about eight years, and worked part time at Arneson’s and Dollar General in Imperial.

She loved to cook, garden and feed wild birds.

She was a member of Imperial Methodist Church.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Merril; her parents; her in-laws, Kermit and Opal Humphreys; and her brother Loren.

She is survived by her daughter Tami Humphreys of Hastings; her daughter Lori (Andy) Faeh of Central City; her son Kevin of Holyoke, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Luke Faeh of Central City, Audra (Barry) Morse of Ord, Anna Faeh of Utsunomiya, Japan, April Faeh of Miyazaki City, Japan, Logan (Tara) Faeh of Central City, Ashley Humphreys of Greeley, Colorado, Megan (Seth) Thomas of Haxtun, Colorado; two great-granddaughters, Leni Faeh and Avery Thomas; one brother, Merwyn of North Carolina; and one sister, Glenda Curiale of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
