Susan Lynn Yoder was born September 23, 1949 in Huron, South Dakota to Arthur Edwin and Marcia Lou (Samis) Bjorke. She attended school in Huron, graduating with the Class of 1967 and went on to complete two years of college. She worked for a short time in Kansas City, Missouri and then married Kenneth Engel Jr. on February 14, 1969 and settled in Aberdeen, SD. On October 19, 1973 she was united in marriage to Daniel Kelley. Susan and her growing family made homes in South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. She made her final home in Wauneta, Nebraska and on September 30, 2012 married the man of her dreams, Glen Yoder in Imperial, Nebraska.
She kept the books for many home businesses, at various times helped several neighbors during harvest season and later managed a children’s clothing store. However, her first love was being a mother and homemaker. In addition to raising and caring for her children, she was a member of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod where she was an avid member of the weekly women’s bible studies and participated as an LWML member. Susan also volunteered as the regional coordinator for the railroad safety program, Operation Lifesaver. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, deer hunting and spending time with family playing cards and board games. She was a passionate fan of NASCAR, the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Rockies. In addition to these interests, she loved “Toodling” in Ruby; Glen’s ’35 Chevy. She was a devoted grandmother who loved to spend time with and brag about her grandchildren.
Susan passed away July 6th, 2014 at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial. She was 64 years of age.
Preceding her in death are her mother Marcia Bjorke, father Arthur Bjorke, sister Debra (Bjorke) Engel, grandson Christopher Engel and a stepdaughter Dana Yoder.
Survivors include: Husband, Glen Yoder of Wauneta Stepmom, Jackie Bjorke of Huron, SD Daughter, Dawn (Steven) Willadsen of Casper, WY Son, Travis Engel of Cheyenne, WY Daughter, Jolene (Tony) Muths of Wauneta Stepdaughter, Tonya (Chandler) Shull of Dighton, KS Stepson, Shawn (Katie) Yoder of Washington, KS Sister, Denise (Craig) Larsen of Jacksonville, NC Brothers: Bill Bjorke of Montgomery, NY, Doug (Cheri) Bjorke of Huron, SD Grandchildren: Shaylei, Tyler and Dylan Willadsen, Hillary, Chelsea and Alexis Engel, Wyatt Muths, Jeremiah Dike, Cory, Dana and Bryce Yoder. Great-grandson, Brandtley Mundt And many nieces and nephews that she adored.
Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. (MT), Friday, July 11th, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial with Pastor David Kahle officiating. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near North Platte, NE.
No visitation; Susan was cremated.
Memorials have been established to the Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial or to the Wauneta EMS.
