Stephen Moore Osborne, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2026, in Benkelman, Nebraska. Born on November 12, 1948, in Bombay, India, to Samuel and Jeane (Teel) Osborne, Stephen’s early years were marked by a rich tapestry of global experiences. Raised in India and having traveled extensively with his parents, Stephen lived in various countries including Japan, Pakistan, and other parts of the Middle East before relocating to the East Coast of the United States at the age of 13. He later completed his high school education in the United States, laying the foundation for a life lived across many cultures and continents.
Stephen was best known for owning and operating his Native American jewelry store, "Desert Son," in Tucson, Arizona, a business he passionately nurtured and led for over 50 years. His store was more than a place of commerce; it was a vibrant space that celebrated the art and heritage he loved so deeply. His dedication to Native American culture was evident in every piece he curated, reflecting a profound respect and admiration for the artistry and traditions that enriched his life.
Beyond his professional achievements, Stephen found joy and fulfillment in the relationships he cultivated over the decades. Many of these friendships were forged through shared travels to Santa Fe, New Mexico, an experience he treasured greatly.
Stephen is survived by numerous cousins who remember him fondly, carrying forward the legacy of kindness and cultural appreciation that defined his life. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his sister, Carol.
A Celebration of Life to honor Stephen will be held on Wednesday, April 15 at 1:30 P.M. (MT) at Benkelman Memorial Chapel, 205 Chief Street with Pastor Rod Heilbrun officating. Inurnment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery at a later date.
