Imperial

Phyllis Maxine Belau, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 25, 2025, in Imperial, Nebraska. Born on September 12, 1930 to Frank and Rosa Elizabeth (Losey) Wendland. Phyllis lived a life filled with love, adventure, and enduring connections. She graduated from Benkelman High School in 1948, embarking on a journey that would see her embrace the joys of family, travel, and community.

Shortly after graduating, Phyllis married the love of her life, Paul Belau on September 12, 1948 in Benkelman. The newlyweds relocated to Denver, CO where they began raising their family until deciding to move to Imperial, where Paul and Phyllis started Belau Manufacturing on the east side of town.

An avid reader and dedicated television viewer, Phyllis also reveled in the peacefulness of fishing alongside her husband, Paul. Although she didn’t really like fish, she tagged along so she could spend time with her best friend. Phyllis actively participated in her community, attending Zion Lutheran Church and being involved with the Imperial Eagles, where she forged lasting friendships and shared her warm presence with others.

Phyllis was a devoted mother to her sons. Her legacy continues through her three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, with whom she adored spending time. Her love for family was matched only by her adventurous spirit; she was a proud world traveler, having explored remarkable places from Antarctica and New Zealand, Europe and China.

Phyllis is survived by her son, Don (Joyce) of Lincoln, NE, her 3 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, her adoring husband, her son Rodney; sisters, Delores Archer, and Mildred Way; and her brother, Gene Wendland.

At the request of Phyllis, a private family graveside inurnment will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Imperial at a later date. Memorial Contributions may be made in her name to St. Jude children’s research hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.
