Mica
Maucher
May 21, 1951 — Aug 12, 2026
Imperial, NE
Mica Sherry Maucher died peacefully on the morning of August 12, 2026, at the Wauneta Care Center in Wauneta, Nebraska. Mica’s sharp wit, vivid memory, and loving heart stayed intact, even throughout her recent health struggles. She will be missed by all who loved her.
Mica was born in Imperial, Nebraska, on May 21, 1951, to Kenneth and Joyce (Reynolds) Maucher. From a young age, she was drawn to care for creatures small and vulnerable. Nursing rabbits, squirrels, cats, and dogs back to health were a constant part of her life.
Her sister, Patricia, was born in 1955. After tragically losing their father, Kenneth, in 1958, Joyce married Joe Lattin in 1961. Blending the family, Pat and Mica now had three step brothers; Steve, Mark and Paul Lattin. Graduating from Mullin High School in 1969, she went on to earn a teaching degree from Chadron State College. On March 14, 1971, she gave birth to the joy of her life and center of her universe, McKenley Frederick. In 1974, she married Mick Cotant, who received and raised “Kenley” as his own. In 1982, she moved to Manhattan, Kansas, to study veterinarian medicine, where she received her Doctorate of Veterinarian Medicine from Kansas State University. Mica practiced primarily in the Denver, Colorado, region after that, until moving back to Imperial in 1995. McKenley lost his life in 2000 and has been missed deeply since. Mica often spoke of not wanting to feel sad, because she didn’t want his memory to be tainted with anything other than joy.
A special note of appreciation to the staff of the Wauneta Care Center and Angels Care Hospice, who gave Mica excellent care.
Mica Maucher is survived by her friend, Mick Cotant, step-brother, Paul (Percilla) Lattin, nieces Tricia (Jacob) Sweet, Torie (Angel) Contreras, and Tyler Fosdick, numerous cousins, and beloved friends.
Mica was preceded in death by her son, McKenly, parents, Joyce and Kenneth Maucher, sister Patricia, step-father Joe Lattin, step-brothers Steve and Mark Lattin, grandparents Fred and Cecilia Maucher and John and Thelma Reynolds, nephew Justin Howell, and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
