Marilyn Rider passed away on April 28, 2025, in her hometown of Imperial, Nebraska. Born on August 13, 1938, in Imperial, to Roger and Teresa (O’Brien) Pflum. She was the third of seven children in a family rooted in hard work and close-knit values, raised on their family farm on the south divide.
Marilyn's passion for education was evident throughout her career, as she taught with SWATS, dedicating her life to working with special needs children, whom she adored. Her ability to connect with these children brought joy and growth into their lives, leaving a lasting impact on their families and the community.
Marilyn's life was profoundly shaped by love and commitment. She met her husband, Dr. Eugene Rider, and they were married in Colorado Springs. They lived in Wyoming, Denver, Colo., and eventually moved to McCook Neb. where they created countless memories and built numerous close friendships in the community,
In addition to her professional achievements, Marilyn was an active individual who enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, and participating in various activities that kept her engaged and vibrant. Her culinary skills shone in the kitchen, where she loved baking, and her creativity flourished as she crafted dolls, curtains, and was considered more than a proficient seamstress. Most importantly, she embraced her role as a mother with unconditional love and dedication.
Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Rider, and her sisters, Rose Mary of San Antonio, TX, and Rita of Atwood, KS, sister-in-law, Marcia Rider of Imperial, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dr. Eugene Rider, her son Kenneth Rider, brother Jim Pflum, and sisters Pat Barum, Vangie Balik, Rose Pflum (baby), Rita Schroeder, and Rosemary Hackett.
Recitation of Rosary will be held on Friday May 9, 2025 at 9:30 AM MT, followed by Memorial Mass at 10:00AM MT at Saint Johns Catholic Church in Wauneta, NE with Father Bernard Lorenz celebrating. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Wauneta.
