Margaret “Maggie” Ann McCoy’s story drew to a peaceful close on July 6, 2026, in Kearney, Nebraska. Maggie was born on an autumn day in Denver, Colorado, October 14, 1951, to Melvin and Lorraine (Bartsch) Rippe.
Her journey began in Denver, CO until junior high school when she relocated to Champion, NE with her family. Maggie would go on to graduate from Chase County High School, class of 1969. At 17, Maggie married William McCoy on July 11, 1969 and the couple moved to the farm and started their family. Maggie found hope and faith in her Savior, Jesus Christ during her young adult years. This faith would prove critical when Bill passed away and Maggie was left to raise her family and inherit the farming operation by herself. Through her hard work, exceptional marketing skills and love for the land, Maggie excelled at farming and ranching.
Maggie loved farming. She loved raising cattle, gardening, sewing, helping the kids with 4H projects when they were younger. She enjoyed volunteering at the church, helping out with vacation bible school, MOPS and other church activities. She loved to bake and tried to teach all of the kids to sew. Maggie was not afraid of hard work and passed these traits to all of her children. She even found time to take on part time work at the Wauneta Breeze working in various capacities and was very proud of her "Cooking Column". Everyone loved Maggie's cooking.
Maggie leaves behind her son, Vance (Ronda) McCoy; daughters, Tammy (Jared) Wach, Tiffany (Mike) Bley and Renee (Marty) Wheeler; two brothers; two sisters; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren (another on the way); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill; and sister, Sharon Hahn.
A funeral service has been scheduled for Thursday, July 9 at 10:00 a.m. (MT) at Imperial Berean Church with Pastor Matt Maxwell officiating. Viewing one hour prior. Interment to follow at Blanche Cemetery in rural Chase County at 2:00 p.m.
