Obituary

Lloyd Allan Smith, the oldest child of Vilas and Elna Rae (Kitt) Smith, was born on March 20, 1948, in Imperial, Nebraska. He grew up on a farm north of Enders alongside his three sisters, attended Enders School, and graduated from Chase County High School in 1966. After two years at Chadron State College, he returned home to farm west and south of Champion.

Lloyd was brought into God’s Kingdom through Holy Baptism on September 13, 1964, at Enders Lake and was confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church on May 2, 1971. His God-given faith remained a steady foundation throughout his life. A lifelong member of Zion, he shared his gifts by singing in the choir, serving as an Elder, and supporting the local, national, and international ministries of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod.

On December 7, 1968, Lloyd married Rhonda Jean Frosh at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial. Together, they built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. In this union, they were blessed with two sons, Nicholas Bryan and Brent Douglas.

Lloyd enjoyed simple pleasures such as bowling, fishing, hunting, tending land and livestock, and serving the community as Champion Grade School board member. He ran the combine day (and night) finishing this year’s harvest, and the day after Thanksgiving, built miles of electric fence. He was known for his steady presence, subtle humor, and the lighthearted charm that made him beloved by many.

Lloyd entered eternal life with Christ on December 8, 2025, while receiving care at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. He was 77 years old.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda of Champion; his sons, Nick (Kristine) of Champion and Brent (Jennie) of Omaha; three sisters, Marla Smith of Imperial, Merle (Larry) Konken of Hershey, and Maxine Smith of Cheyenne, Wyoming; and seven grandchildren, Jacqueline (Scott) Hampton of Imperial, Allan, Krystal, and Austin of Champion, and Zachary, Katelyn (fiancé Nick Price), and Sophia of Omaha. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Jackson and soon-to-arrive Jacob Hampton, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 13, at 10:30 A.M. (MT) at Zion Lutheran Church, 1305 Broadway St. Imperial, with pastor Scott Adle officiating. Interment to follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Imperial.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the Zion Lutheran Church building fund, Zion Lutheran Church music program, or a charity of the donor’s choosing.
