Howard Rand
Levy
Mar 28, 1945 — Aug 3, 2026
Champion, NE
Howard Rand Levy died August 3, 2026 at Chase County Community Hospital. He lived a rich and full life of family, friends, adventure and purpose. He was born March 28th, 1945 to Howard and Arrie Anna, of Imperial. Rand grew up in Imperial attending and graduating from Chase County Schools 1963. After completing high school, he attended Chadron State College where he graduated with his degree in 1967.
Rand forged many lifelong friends while in Chadron. He was a founding member of the Saddle tramp bunch. Several of his friend group stayed connected over years and miles and many bumps in each of their roads. Rand served our country during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970 being discharged as an E5. He always dreamed of returning back to the farm that his grandfather had established but didn’t think with his allergies that would ever be possible. So, he began a career in retail and moving into management role in Kmart in Wichita, KS. While working in Wichita he met and started courting a young woman by the name of Donna Shaw. Soon into their courtship his job moved him to St. Louis, Missouri and they continued their courtship until October 10, 1971 when they wed. The newlywed couple soon moved to Wisconsin with an opportunity within Kmart. While living in the Milwaukee area they welcomed their daughter Lori in 1974.
Rand decided that retail wasn’t for him and he wanted something different for his family. He took a chance and in 1976 moved his little family back to the Imperial area. In July of 1977 the family welcomed their son Carl. Rand chased his dream of running the family farm and never looked back. He spent many years serving on the Frenchman Valley Coop Board of Directors. During those years he built many friendships and working relationships locally and across the country with other Coop Boards from all over. Rand was also an active member of the local shooting league, taught Hunter Education.
He joined the VFW and participated in the Honor Guard for many years and volunteered in his church and community. Along with farming he continued the family tradition of photography and took a lot of senior photos, weddings and family pictures over many years. In 2013 he lost Donna to a long battle with pneumonia. In 2015 Rand was gifted another partner to walk through life with. Peggy and Rand married December 5, 2015. They enjoyed taking fishing trips and a few adventures by bus and even a memorable train trip. Peggy was by his side to the very end.
Rand was preceded in death by his parents. Howard Levy, and Arrie Anna Statz, his wife Donna and other family.
Rand is survived by wife Peggy, daughter Lori (Dusty) Stutzman of Arnold, son Carl (Julie) Levy of Champion, bonus children Sidra (Morgan) Kunnemann of St Robert, MO, Jamie (Matt) Nutt of Curtis, Jordan (Lida) Warner of North Platte.
