Don grew up with eight siblings, and in a time when hard work was expected and love of the Lord, country and family was a must. At the early age of 17, he chose to serve his country by joining the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He served with the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class. Four of his brothers also served in the US Army. He acquired his GED and received an Associates of Education at NJC.
