Dennis grew up in Paoli where he attended a 2-room school from 1st through the 8th grade. He then went to Haxtun High School and graduated with the class of 1959. Dennis was a bus driver when he was 16 years of age. He lived on the farm where he raised sheep and chickens. On December 26, 1984, Dennis met Donna Elizabeth Tull on a fishing boat in Galveston, Texas. Dennis and Donna were married on May 7, 1985, and the couple settled in Holyoke with Dennis’ son Lyle. In August of 1988 they moved to Imperial where Dennis was employed at Coop as they contracted his welding expertise. He later worked for MarLant Industries, building and maintaining car washes.
