Obituary

Dale Duane Herman was born Sept. 20, 1929, in a rural home located south of McGrew, NE, in an area called Horseshoe Bend. He was the third of five children born to Irvin 0. and Mildred (Jessup) Herman. His two older siblings were Helen Mildred and Floyd Irvin. His younger brother and sister were Delmer James and Sylvia Lavon.

He attended various country schools and then high school in Bridgeport, Neb. He enlisted in the United States Navy between his junior and senior year of high school. On Oct. 26, 1948, he went through boot camp at San Diego, Calif., then was stationed on the battleship "Iowa" assisting in putting it out of commission. He then was stationed on the "U.S.S. Ozboume" DD846, a destroyer in the Korean Conflict, for 14 months. While on the ship his brother Delmer "Jiggs" came aboard and they rode the ship together for about a year. Dale was honorably discharged on Sept. 24, 1952, in Seattle, Wash. He then worked for a time on oil rigs near New Castle, Wyo.

Dale married Anna Marie Mahan on July 28, 1953, at New Castle. They became parents of a daughter, DebaraAnn, on Feb. 4, 1955, in Alliance, Neb. He was then employed at several ranches in Cherry County south of Cody, Neb. In 1962, they moved to Cody where he purchased the Ford garage (Cody Motor Co.) which offered new and used vehicles as well as automotive repair. During this time he was a State Brand Inspector for Nebraska and South Dakota. In August 1975, he sold his home and the Ford garage and became divorced. Soon afterward he went to California to see his mother, Mildred Glenn.

On April 10, 1976, he was united in marriage to Ramona (Heese) Wobig Wagner in Garden Grove, Calif. He sold cars for Pamelli Jones and Gardina Ford. In 1977, Dale became manager of a truck stop and was robbed at gunpoint. Needless to say, he quit that job. In 1980 he and Ramona moved to Seiad Valley in northern California. They purchased three acres near the Klamath River where he "worked" on the place for five years. In 1985, he was hired as a range tech supervisor for theU.S. Forest Service near Seiad Valley. The couple sold their place in 1992 and relocated to Benkelman, Neb., where two of Ramona's offspring and their families resided.

In 2002 Dale received his GED and graduated high school with a step-grandson through the Dundy County Schools system in Benkelman.

The Hermans loved to do crafting, fish, camp, hunt, play cards and dominoes and travel. Due to health issues at the age of 96, he became a resident of the Sarah Ann Hester Memorial Home in Benkelman on January 20, 2026. He spent his time at the Home with his wife, Ramona, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 10.

Following a fall to the floor the morning of April 13, 2026, and sustaining a broken hip he was hospitalized. He died the next night, April 14, 2026. As pre-planned, he chose cremation. Upon the passing of Ramona and her cremation, a service will be held at the cemetery near Bridgeport, Neb., with burial of their cremains.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents, all of his brothers and sisters and Ramona's son Kent.

Those who dearly will miss him are his wife, Ramona; daughter Debara; Ramona's offspring: Glenda and Richard Bartholomew, their children and families; Gail and Danny Jones, their children and families; and James "Jim" and Edelle Wobig, their children and families; and nieces and nephews.
