    William "Bill" Christner

    July 8, 1926 - December 21, 2012

    William “Bill” Christner William Robert Christner was born July 8, 1926, to Jason and Anna (Barnett) Christner on the family farm 8 miles north of Hamlet, NE. Bill attended elementary school in a country school one and a half miles north of the family farm. He attended high school in Hamlet, NE. Upon finishing high school Bill worked on the family farm and for area farmers. On Oct. 8, 1960 Bill married Charlotte Bernice Swan in Keokuk, Iowa. The family was blessed with four children: Steven, Elizabeth, Donald and Charles. The couple settled north of Hamlet where they lived on several farms before making their home on the Christner family farm where Bill lived most of his days. Bill’s life was dedicated to working the farm, enjoying his family, and being a part of Hamlet Union Church. When farm work lightened up in the winter, he enjoyed reading books, especially anything having to do with history. He also enjoyed telling a good story. Bill passed away Fri. Dec. 21st, 2012 in the Kearney Hospital, Kearney, NE. He was 86 years old. Bill was preceded in death by an infant brother, David, his parents and his wife Charlotte Christner. Survivors include his four children: Steve and wife Vicki, of Hamlet, NE; Elizabeth Hofer and husband Earl of Wichita, KS, Donald and wife Tonya, of Cheyenne, WY, Charlie and wife Becki, of Tonganoxie, KS Thirteen grandchildren Sisters: Patricia Bornemeier and husband Don of Murdock, NE: Dorothy McDonald and husband Gene of Sterling, CO Funeral services will be held Friday morning, 10:30 a.m. (CST) at Hamlet Union Church, Hamlet, NE with Pastor Kevin McGraw officiating. Interment will follow at the Meadow Lawn Cemetery, Hamlet, NE. Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon, 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. (MT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
