Virginia King

August 20, 1928 — April 22, 2013

Virginia Mae (Greene) King, a native of Chase County and resident of Imperial NE died Monday afternoon, April 22, 2013, at the Ogallala Community Hospital following surgery, at the age of 84.
She was born August 20, 1928 on a farm in southern Chase County NE to Joseph H. and Vera M. (Bricker) Greene of rural Enders. As the third child and only daughter, she grew up on the Greene farm south of Enders in Dundy County where she attended Ash Grove one-room school house with her three brothers and later graduated from Wauneta High School in 1946. In the fall of 1946 she enrolled at Colorado Women’s College in Denver CO and graduated in 1948. She returned to Imperial to find employment for about three years and then moved back to Denver. On December 27, 1953, Virginia was united in marriage with George W. King of Hustonville KY, while he was serving in the US Air Force. The newlyweds made their first home in Spokane WA for just three months when George was accidently killed with other crew members during a B-36 practice flight.
As a widow, Virginia returned to Denver where she made a career with Savings and Loan companies serving as loan officer and branch manager until her retirement. After moving back to Imperial, Virginia devoted much of her time and energy to her beloved family as a caregiver to her parents. Although Virginia never remarried, she was a caring, loving and giving Aunt who had a special fondness for her nieces and nephews. Her family has been greatly blessed by her influence and love. The past several years she made her home at the Parkview Assisted Living and Imperial Manor with many beloved friends and staff.
During her life she heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and by faith believing God’s Word, trusted Jesus to be her personal Savior and Lord. One of her favorite scriptures is: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17
Preceding her in death are her husband, George; her infant daughter, Karen Kay; her parents, Joseph H. and Vera Greene; father and mother in-law, Everett and Gletha King; brother Joseph J. Greene, and wife, Gloria; sister in-law, Colleen Greene; nieces, Sylvia (Greene) Large and Jamie Greene; and nephew, Robert Greene.
Survivors include her brothers: Glenard of Imperial NE and Carroll and wife, Ruth, of Ogallala NE; nieces: Lori Pursley of Westminister CO and Annette Hazuka and husband, Jim, of Monument CO; and nephews: Tim and wife, Jacqueline and Dirk and wife, Linda, all of Imperial; other relatives and friends.
