Ronald “Ron” Moritz

Ronald “Ron” Allen Moritz, 74, of Imperial, NE, was welcomed home to his Heavenly Father on November 13, 2015, at Great Plains Health in North Platte, NE, after a two year battle with pancreatic cancer. Ron was born on March 11, 1941, in Loup City, NE, to Peter and Marie (Kwarcinski) Moritz. He attended country school at District 19 until 8th grade and then attended high school at Rockville, Nebraska. On June 2, 1962, Ron married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Clausen at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Ravenna, NE. They were married for 53 years.

Ron and Bonnie began their lives together on their family farm near Rockville, NE. In 1964 they moved to Rockville where Ron was employed by the Rockville Lumber Company. Four years later Ron took a job with Gulf Oil Company, in Central City, NE. Then in 1971, the family moved to Imperial, NE, where Ron began employment with the Brown Chemical Company, followed by Scoular Fertilizer, and then finally Frenchman Valley Coop until his retirement in 2003. After retirement he spent harvest season driving grain carts for various local farmers.

Ron was very active in his church and community, where he was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Rockville Volunteer Fire Dept., the Eagles Club, and various other organizations.

Ron was a man of many talents and hobbies. His musical talents were a huge part of his life. He began singing publicly in grade school, and continued to sing and perform for the enjoyment of others throughout his life. He sang at countless weddings, funerals, talent shows, musicals, and worship services. He was especially known for his impersonations of Elvis and his Christmas Eve rendition of “Oh Holy Night”. Ron was also a lover of sports, he began playing baseball at a young age for teams coached by his father in Rockville, and continued to play town team baseball for many years. He loved to play golf, and was a long-time member of the Imperial Country Club. Fishing was also one of Ron’s favorite hobbies; he grew up fishing the banks of the Loup River near Rockville, and continued when he moved to Imperial by spending many summer nights on his boat at Enders Lake.

Ron was also an accomplished craftsman and woodworker. He spent hundreds of hours in his workshop building items for his family and friends. He loved to spend time in his garden, and took particular pride in his straight rows and intricate growing system. Finally, Ron was well known in Imperial for his meticulous Christmas lights display, where he spent several days every winter decorating his house and giant tree for the enjoyment of his neighbors and passers-by.

Ron was regarded by all who knew him as a loving family man. In 1978, he welcomed into his life four nephews and a niece to join his own four children which made an instant family with nine kids to raise. He parented, alongside his wife Bonnie, and made sure each child grew up knowing unconditional love and care. He modeled a lifetime of giving to others and never complained.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Marie Moritz.
