RICHARD D. GARDNER
Richard Dean Gardner was born December 19, 1957, in Sterling, Colorado, to Edward and Patsy Lee (Owens) Gardner. Rick grew up and attended school in Curtis, Nebraska. He received his degree in Agribusiness from Curtis Tech School. In 1980 Rick enlisted in the United States Army, serving until 1985. Rick married Karen Hosick on July 24, 1987, at Wellfleet Lake in Wellfleet, Nebraska, and to this union three children were born: Michael, Daniel and Renae. The family settled in Stockville, Nebraska, until 1991 when they moved to Wauneta. Rick was employed as a semi truck driver for the Wauneta Co-op, Frenchman Valley Co-op and Bruce Kramer Farms.
Rick enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his sons, and he especially loved family time. Rick passed away early Sunday morning, August 7, 2011, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, Nebraska. He was 53 years of age.
Rick was preceded in death by his father Edward; grandparents Guy and Mary Gardner and Richard Owens.
Survivors include: Mother: Patsy and step-father Russ Woods of Cambridge, Nebraska. Wife: Karen of Wauneta, Nebraska. Sons: Michael Gardner of Wauneta, Nebraska. Daniel Gardner and special friend Tori Adams of Wauneta, Nebraska. Daughter: Renae Gardner of Wauneta, Nebraska. Sister: Cathy Wichman and husband Steve of Randolph, Nebraska. Brother: Jim Gardner and wife Marsha of Curtis, Nebraska.
Memorial Services will be held Wednesday morning, August 10, 2011, 11:00 a.m. (MT) at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, Nebraska, with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
No visitation, Rick chose cremation.
A memorial has been established in Rick’s memory.
