Nirene Kitt

November 24, 1921 — February 14, 2012

Nirene Troxel Kitt
Phyllis Nirene Troxel Kitt was born November 24, 1921, to Walter O. and Clarice Harvey Troxel in Elsie, Nebraska. She attended both grade school and high school in Elsie, graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1939.
Nirene married Bruce Kitt of Wauneta on August 21, 1942. Except for brief stays in North Platte and Missouri, the couple lived in the Chase County area until 1960, when they moved to southern California. They returned to Nebraska in 1989, living in North Platte until May, 2007, when they returned “home” to Chase County. Bruce died in June, 2007.
Baptized into Christ in 1936 at the age of 15, Nirene was an enthusiastic Bible student and an example of faithfulness to God and her family. At the time of her death, she was a member of the Westside Church of Christ. She was an avid reader and loved word games, especially crossword puzzles. Even as her body failed her, her mind stayed sharp to the end. She was well-known for her musical abilities, able to play countless melodies by ear on the piano.
After a brief stay in the hospital, Nirene passed away Tuesday morning, February 14, 2012, in her Imperial home, attended by her three daughters and two of her granddaughters.
