HIRAM GLOVER
Hiram “Lee” Glover was born February 7, 1932, in Big Spring, Texas, to Hiram Matthew and Mildred Keene (Hill) Glover. Lee, as he was known, grew up, attended school, and spent most of his life in the Texas. He was well known in Farmersville TX, where he worked for Feagin’s Supper Market.
Lee met Lois (Bartels) Dunham in Greenville, TX, and they married on October 20, 1989. The couple moved to Wauneta, Nebraska, in 1991, to be near Lois’s parents, Otto and Ida Bartels. Lee gained employment at Walgren’s Super Market in Wauneta, shortly after arriving. He later worked for many farmers in the surrounding area. He loved checking out “ALL” the country back roads, in his well known white Ford Ranger Pick-up. He always traveled with his own two dogs or one of the farmer’s dogs that he was working for. It has been said that “Everybody Knew Lee”
The last job Lee did was delivering the McCook Gazette with Lois. Everyone learned they might as well wave at Lee, because he always waved at them. When he was unable to drive, he waved from his dinning room window. He and Lois were very appreciative of all those that came by and waved back.
Lee loved to take rides, and Lois continued this love by assisting Lee in his wheel chair at the Heritage Nursing Home, where he resided. He would wave at everyone as they past the different rooms, and it would make Lee’s day when they waved back.
All of Lee’s life, he loved doing things for folks that were less fortunate and would give you the shirt off his back and shoes too if he thought you needed it. Lee gave folks a hard time a lot, and believed if someone was thinking about getting back at him, they were not thinking about their troubles. He had a mission with this role and he played it well. You knew if Lee liked you by how hard a time he gave you. This included all ages, his card playing buddies, and especially preachers.
Everyone that knew Lee has a story to tell. Lee believed in having a good time. He never worried about anything because he knew God had always brought him through everything and he trusted God would always be there to take care of everything. We know without any doubt he is in God’s hands now.
The greatest blessing God gave Lee was his friendship with Bill W. and all the friends he met through him. Lee passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home in Imperial, Nebraska. He was 78 years of age.
Lee was preceded in death by his father Hiram M. Glover, mother Mildred, step-father Arthur Merworth, brother-in-law Tom Lockhart, and son Ricky Dunham.
