Kenneth H Kunnemann

December 1, 1931 — January 20, 2021

Kenneth Henry Kunnemann was born northwest of Imperial, Nebraska, on December 1, 1931, to George and Rosa (Haarberg) Kunnemann. Ken was baptized on December 20, 1931, and confirmed on May 20, 1945, at the Lutheran Church in Imperial. Ken attended District #6 in northwest Chase County for 8 years and then went to work on the family farm. In 1952 Ken enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. Ken spent one year at Camp Pendleton in San Diego, California, and then went on to Korea during the war, where he served as military police.

After returning home from Korea, Ken married Kathryn Kunkee from rural McCook, Nebraska. The couple were married on December 12, 1954, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ash Creek near McCook. Ken and Kathy settled on the farm where they raised their 6 children and farmed and ranched together. They resided on the farm for 61 years until 2015 when Ken moved to the Imperial Manor. Ken and Kathy celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in December.

Ken loved when irrigation came to Chase County. His dad had one of the first wells in the county, drilled in 1949. He also loved helping his kids with their 4-H and FFA projects. Ken was a seed corn salesman for over 35 years and he enjoyed planting test plots and trying new fertilizer products. Ken also enjoyed playing cards with the card club they belonged to for over 50 years, and dancing and supplying the music for their dances. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and going fishing after a rain when his kids were young.

Ken passed away January 20, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Kearney, Nebraska. He was 89 years of age.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents George and Rosa; son-in-law Norman Clark; and brother William Kunnemann.
