Anna Iona (Johnson) Peterson:
Iona Peterson a long time resident of Imperial passed away Sunday morning, June 12, 2011 at the Imperial Manor Nursing Home, Imperial. She was 90 years of age.
Iona was born on October 3, 1920, in Champion, NE, to Hansie & Lillie (Fulk) Johnson, the 2nd of 4 children. She was a life long resident of Chase County, graduating from Chase County High School in 1939.
She was married to Ward Peterson on August 19, 1940. They lived in Imperial where they raised 4 children. An avid gardener & seamstress, Iona opened Iona’s Fabric Villa in Imperial after the death of her husband, & ran the store for a number of years before selling it & retiring.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ward Peterson, daughter Charon Dutton, brother Irvin Johnson, & sister Theda Bopp.
She is survived by her sons Tom (Patricia) Peterson of Colby, KS; Stan (Beth) Peterson of Lincoln, NE; & Chuck (Meta) Peterson of Linkoping, Sweden, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson, her sister Eileen Phinney of Lincoln, NE & many nieces & nephews.
Funeral Services for Iona Peterson will be held Wednesday morning, June 15, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial with Pastor David Kahle officiating. Internment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Imperial.
Visitation will be held Tuesday afternoon, June 14, 2011 from 2 – 6 p.m. at the Funeral Home in Imperial.
In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Imperial Manor Nursing Home or Zion Lutheran Church of Imperial.
