Gilbert Dean Brandt was born October 5, 1929, in Chase County, Nebraska, to John and Gladys (Newman) Brandt. He passed away on June 1, 2011, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Gilbert and Pauline (Gardner) Brandt were married June 6, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church in Imperial. To this union were born two children: Deena and Troy.
Gilbert attended rural elementary school and graduated from Chase County High School in 1947. He served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955. He was in Japan for two years of his service. The last year of his service, he and Pauline lived in Norfolk, VA. He later returned to farming near Imperial. In addition to farming he became a licensed Miracle Ear consultant.
Gilbert was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He and Pauline played cards with their good friends and neighbors monthly for 52 years. He loved spending time with his family, visiting with friends, traveling and meeting new people. He loved having his granddaughters close and watching them grow up.
Survivors include: wife, Pauline; daughter, Deena and husband Dennis Holmes; son, Troy and wife Judy; grandchildren, Shelbi and Skye Brandt, and David Holmes; great-grandson, Preston Holmes; sister, Alberta Wagner of Flagstaff; mother-in-law, Edna Gardner; aunt, Lela Brandt; uncle, Olan Wallin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Myron and Carol Gardner of Arvada, CO; Delvin and Loneta Gardner of Osmond, NE; Butch and Pam Gardner of Milwaukee, OR; LeAnna and Duane Goff of Imperial; LaVeta Reynolds of Parker, CO; Shirley Gardner of Imperial; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Gladys Brandt; father-in-law, Calvin Gardner; brothers and sister-in-law; Julius Wagner, Gale and Maurine Ransdell, Larry Gardner, Dick Reynolds.
At his request, his body was donated to the University of Nebraska Medical Center. No funeral or services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, condolences may be sent to the family at 73992 326 Avenue, Imperial, NE 69033.
