Gerald Keith Baney

July 6, 1926 — September 18, 2013

Gerald Baney
Gerald Keith Baney was born July 6th, 1926 to Reverda Evert and Lois Elvira (Hardwick) Baney on the family farm, eight miles northwest of Benkelman. He attended District #36 Country School until the eighth grade.
Gerald married Joan Adamson Bader at the Benkelman Methodist Church on July 1st, 1953. Joan was the daughter of Lorena and Faye Adamson, and the granddaughter of Ace and Maple O’Donnell of Benkelman. Gerald and Joan started their married life on the Verle and Ted Behlke (mother & son) Farm eight miles northwest of Benkelman. Here, Gerald was employed as a hired-man for 27 years. Ted and Maureen Behlke took over the operation of the farm in 1980. Gerald worked as a hired-man, manager and advisor for his sister, Verle. In addition to this, he did some farming for himself on what was known then as the Bill Neemann Farm. Farming and raising his family, occupied his time. Joan was overcome by cancer in November of 1976. In 1979, Gerald retired from his farming and moved into the city of Benkelman purchasing a home at 1226 C. Street.
Gerald enjoyed his welding skills and among other items, he made a two-wheeled pony cart that seated three people and a bird-bath made from a field disking machine. He restored potbellied wood burning stoves. He also refurbished children’s pedal tractors. He enjoyed fishing with his friends and relatives, and pheasant hunting. He loved to meet his friends and family at the local coffee hang-outs to visit and laugh together.
Gerald passed away Wednesday evening, September 18th, 2013 at the Dundy County Hospital. He was 87 years of age.
