EUNICE PETERSON
Ruby Eunice (Douglass) Peterson was born October 9, 1920, in Stoneboro, PA, to Roy W. and Birdie Mae (Jack) Douglass. As a young girl, Eunice attended country school through the 8th grade. She then went on to graduate from Holyoke High School in 1937.
Eunice married Amel Mons Peterson on June 28, 1937, in Chappell, Nebraska. The couple first settled on a dairy farm near Haigler, Nebraska, and then in 1942 they moved to their ranch in Dundy County. Eunice and Amel resided on the ranch until 1962 when they moved to Lamar, Nebraska. Eunice was employed in the community café, grocery store which she and Amel owned and operated from 1974 through 1978, and the Lamar post office. They moved to Imperial in 1997. In the last few years Eunice resided in Alliance and Hay Springs, Nebraska.
Eunice enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and embroidery work. She was noted for her patience and homemaking abilities. Eunice was a devout wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will missed by many.
Eunice passed away Thursday evening, October 3, 2013, at the Pioneer Manor Nursing Home in Hay Springs, Nebraska. She was 92 years of age.
Survivors include: Daughter: Amy Petersen and husband Harlan of Hay Springs, NE. Daughter: Connie Buresh and husband John of Littleton, CO. Son: Larry Peterson and wife Gail of Imperial, NE. Daughter: Gail Fae Wees and husband Pat of Boise, ID. Daughter: Sharon Rodgers and husband Charles of Estes Park, CO. Daughter: Kathy Riley and husband Ron of Lincoln, NE. 17 Grandchildren 33 Great-grandchildren 5 Great-great-grandchildren Sisters: Esther Poe and husband Don of Holyoke, CO. Gladys Walgren and husband Ed of Beaverton, OR. Joan Roskop and husband Ken of Wray, CO. Brother: Rex Douglass of Malaysia. Cousin: Hazel Douthit of St. Francis, KS.
She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Irene Douglass, husband Amel, infant son Neil Jay, brother Jim Douglass, half-brothers Archie and Carroll Douglass, great-granddaughter Faith LaMunyon.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at the Imperial Bible Church, Imperial, Nebraska, with Pastor Allen Prodoehl officiating. Interment will follow at the Crete Cemetery, Champion, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon, October 7, 2013, 2:00-6:00 p.m., at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in her memory.
