Emma Jean Maris

June 24, 1925 — August 7, 2015

Emma Jean Maris
Emma Jean Maris was born to Bartlet(Bert) and Edna (Burk) Maxfield on June 24, 1925 in Wauneta, Nebraska. She attended school in Wauneta and graduated from high school with the class of 1942.
Emma Jean was united in marriage to Merrell Maris on June 25, 1954 in Wauneta, Nebraska at the United Methodist Church. The couple made Wauneta their home and were active in their community and in the United Methodist Church. Jean worked at the Wauneta Roller Mill for her entire adult life and most of her childhood. She knew every aspect of the job, from the formulas to the bookwork and orders. As a child she helped her father with deliveries in Southwest Nebraska and Northwest Kansas. The machinery of the mill was like a symphony to Jean and she could tell if something needed adjusted or fixed by ear.
In addition to working at the Mill and the Chateau Movie Theater as a young girl, Emma Jean had many interests. She enjoyed to bowl and golf in her younger years and had a great love for animals, especially her cats. She was a talented painter and spent long hours making crafts. Jean was at home in the kitchen; she baked bread and cookies to share with family and friends. Emma Jean was a 35 year survivor of Colon Cancer.
