Dorothy Lee Taylor was born on April 8th, 1943 to Wenzel and Dora (Barenberg) Brown in Colby, Kansas. She was the tenth of eleven children and grew up on the family farm near Atwood, Kansas. Dorothy was united in marriage to Richard George Taylor on November 25th, 1968 in Benkelman, Nebraska and the couple settled west of Wauneta, Nebraska.
Dorothy spent most of her time working alongside Richard on the family farm. Over the years, she had worked at various places including the nursing homes in Wauneta and Imperial, the cafes in Wauneta and Enders, and the Wauneta Senior Center. Her hobbies included: quilting, needlepoint, crocheting, gardening, and baking/cooking. She loved to teach her grandkids how to cook.
Dorothy passed away Wednesday evening, September 10th, 2014 at the Chase County Community Hospital in Imperial. She was 71 years of age.
Precededing her in death, were her Husband: Richard, Parents: Wenzel & Dora (Barenberg) Brown, Parents in Law: Crandall and Ellen (Gross) Taylor; Brothers: Emmeran Brown, Anton Brown and wife Mary, Joe Brown and wives Wilma and Bernadine, Harvey Brown, Robert Brown, and Wenzel Brown Jr. Sister: Lillian Brown Wahrman and husband Carl Brothers in law: Richard Gamblin, Bernard Sis, Charlie Taylor, Gene Taylor, & Gary Taylor; Sister in law: Marjorie Taylor Jackson and husband Bob.
Survivors include: Sons: Rick and Kim (Kinder) Taylor of Wauneta, Alan & Teresa (Baker) Taylor of Venango; Grandchildren: Garrett & Colby Taylor and Jessica Taylor; Brother: Tom and Margaret Brown of Atwood, KS; Sisters: Delpha (Brown) Sis of Atwood, KS, and Alvina (Brown) Gamblin of Oberlin, KS. Sisters-in-Law: Jean Brown of Atwood, KS, Barbara Taylor of Modesto, CA, and Laverna Wieland of Oxford, NE. Numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. (MT), Tuesday, September 16th, 2014 at the United Methodist Church in Wauneta, Nebraska with Pastor Bonnie McCord and Mr. Dallas Wine officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, Nebraska.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon, September 15th, 2014 from 2:00 P.M.-6:00 P.M. at the funeral home in Wauneta, Nebraska . A memorial has been established to the Callahan Cancer Center in North Platte, Nebraska.
