Don Kennedy
Donald Lee Kennedy was born November 19, 1933, south of Madrid in Perkins County, Nebraska, to Presley Sherman and Effie Stella (Kline) Kennedy.
On May 21, 1952, Don married Jacqueline Lucille Spaulding in Wray, Colorado. The couple settled on the family farm northeast of Wauneta in Hayes County. Don was an avid farmer/rancher. Don and Jackie later moved into Wauneta in August of 2006
Don served on the Galena and Garfield Country School boards in Hayes County. He enjoyed bowling, golf, shooting blue rocks and hunting. Don also liked to roller skate, and in fact met Jackie at the roller skating rink in Benkelman 63 years ago.
Don passed away Wednesday morning, July 17th, 2013, at the Sunrise Heights Nursing Home in Wauneta. He was 79 years of age.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother Bill; sisters Frances Kerchal, Luella Terry; son-in-law John Lantis; father-in-law Milo Spaulding; and brothers-in-law Dale Blecha and Virgil Kerchal
Survivors Include: Wife: Jackie of Wauneta, NE. Mother-In-Law: Lucille Spaulding of Benkelman, NE. Daughter: Jannette Lantis of Hershey, NE. Sons: Larry and wife, Gracia, of North Platte, NE. Danny and wife, Teresa, of Purdum, NE. Daughter: Vicki Jussel and husband, Dave, of Waddell, AZ. 12 Grandchildren: Stacy (Patrick) Ringlein; Sandy (Trevor) Moon; Sherry Lantis; Shad (Megan) Lantis; Misty (Todd) Armstrong; Marcy Kennedy; Micah (Daniele) Kennedy; Candice Kennedy; Christy (Casey) Tucker; Kelly (Kat) Kennedy; Brent Jussel; Michelle (Jeremy) McCarthy. 15 Great-Grandchildren: Ashley and Sadie Ringlein; Mason and Jackson Moon; JT and Macradee Lantis; Tristan Armstrong; Kipton Kennedy; Brayton, Preston Moschenross; Skyler, Taylor Tucker; Kyra, Dixie Kennedy; and Nolan McCarthy. Funeral services for Don Kennedy will be held Saturday, July 20th, 2013, 10:30 A.M. (MT) at the United Methodist Church of Wauneta, with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE
Visitation will be held Friday, July 19th, 2013, 2:00 P.M. -6:00 P.M. (MT) at the funeral home in Wauneta.
A memorial has been established in Don’s memory.
