Charles Hallett was born June 23, 1919, to Charles and Myrtle Hallett. They lived on a farm one mile east of Enders, Nebraska. In 1929 the family moved to a farm south of Enders and Charles attended elementary school at Enders. He received his high school diploma from American School of Chicago, Illinois.
In November of 1939 the family moved to Imperial, Nebraska. Charles was employed by various farmers until he was inducted into the United States Army Air Force on October 14, 1942, at Fort Logan, Colorado. Before going overseas, he was stationed at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, Camp Clairborne, Louisiana, and Bradley Field, Connecticut. Overseas he was stationed at Oran, Algeria, North African Division of the Air Transport Command where he served with the crash crew. Charles was honorably discharged on November 24, 1945.
For several years, Charles did paint jobs and farm work. Then he was custodian at the Imperial Methodist Church, the Imperial City Park and the Imperial Manor. In 1970 he worked as janitor at the Chase County High School and worked there until he retired in 1984.
Charles had many hobbies which he pursued. He truly enjoyed his model train display, woodworking equipment, hunting, fishing and gardening.
Charles found Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in 1940. He lived a life that exemplified that Jesus was his Lord and Master.
Charles was preceded in death by his mother, father, three half-brothers, and sister Marjorie.
Charles entered his heavenly home on May 5, 2011, at the Chase County Hospital, Imperial. He was 91 years of age.
Survivors Include: Sister: Delores Grosvenor of Caldwell, Idaho Sister: Nina Hallett of Imperial, NE Nephew: Bobby Stumbaugh of Caldwell, Idaho Niece: Eileen Schoonover and husband Mick of Caldwell, Idaho Niece: Loretta Moyer and husband Lance of Ketchikan, Alaska Several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral Services for Charles Hallett will be Tuesday morning, 10:00 A.M., at the Immanuel Missionary Church, Wauneta, NE with Pastor Gary Hunt officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery, Imperial, NE
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon, 2:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M., at the funeral home in Imperial.
A memorial has been established in Charles’ memory.
