Betty Joan Brown was born July 18, 1929, to Paul and Opal (Ireland) Eaton in Haxtun, Colorado. Betty attended school in Chase County, graduating from Chase County High School in 1947.
Betty was united in marriage to Donald Brown on June 14, 1947 in St. Francis, Kansas. The couple settled 30 miles northwest of Benkelman, Nebraska where they lived until 1956, when they moved to their current farmstead. Betty kept busy with the common chores of a farm wife; in what free time there was, she taught school in the Crete and Hoover school systems, was a school bus driver for more than 27 years, was active as a 4H leader for 28 years, and gave piano lessons.
Betty was a faithful member of the United Presbyterian Church of Benkelman, Nebraska as well as the Rollwitz Extension Club. She also made time for fishing, gardening, and watching sports; especially Husker football. Betty was accomplished at sewing, crocheting, and quilting; creating numerous works for friends and family in which her care and love live on. Betty passed away Monday night, March 26, 2012, at the Chase County Community Hospital, Imperial, Nebraska. She was 82 years of age.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents; a brother Richard Paul Eaton; and a granddaughter Jessica Kautz.
Left to carry on her memory is her husband Don Sr. of Parks, Nebraska; son Don Jr. and wife, Manette Brown of Imperial, Nebraska; son Ron and wife, Deb Brown of Yukon, Oklahoma; son Mike and wife, Roxann of Mullen, Nebraska; daughter Julie Kautz of Gering, Nebraska; daughter Linda and husband, Neal Freese of Plymouth, Nebraska; grandchildren: David Brown, Misty Richards, Stacy Paitz, Emily Brown, Casey Brown, Cody Gerlach, Levi Gerlach, Weston Gerlach, Joshua Kautz, Hanna Kautz, Mark Brown, Samantha Fhuere, Danny Brown, and Steve Brown; great-grandchildren: Shelby and Dash Richards, Madison and Myla Brown, Zachary and Ashley Brown, Wesley Brown, Lane and Kaylin Brown, Holdyn Fhuere, Micha and Asher Gerlach, and Ethan Peck; sister Darla McAllister of Hastings, Nebraska; sister-in-law Nina and husband, Art Fortkamp of Wauneta, Nebraska, and sister-in-law Jean and husband Don Welch of Champion, Nebraska.
Funeral services for Betty Brown will be held at 10:30 a.m. (MT) Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Benkelman Zion Lutheran Church, Benkelman, Nebraska with Pastor Marcine Farmer PMA and Pastor George Matthews officiating. Interment will follow at the Benkelman Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-7 p.m. (MT) Friday, March 30, 2012 at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman, Nebraska.
Memorials may be made to the United Presbyterian Church of Benkelman, Nebraska or the Imperial Public Library of Imperial, Nebraska.
