Adeline Dixon
Adeline Dixon was born December 10, 1919, to Joseph and Antonia (Nejdl) Antone of Czechoslovakia. She was born and raised as a young girl in the family sod house north of Palisade, Nebraska. Adeline attended grade school in the District 7 country school. She was a graduate of Hayes County High School. Adeline later attended Lincoln Barber College and was a licensed barber in Cozad, Nebraska, with her youngest son until health forced her to retire at age 89.
Adeline worked at the Goodall Manufacturing Plant in Ogallala and as a cook in restaurants in Big Springs, Nebraska. In 1962 she married Tom K. Dixon and they later moved to Utica, Nebraska, where he owned and operated the drug store. Tom passed away in 1974.
Adeline was always enamored with flowers, birds, and the mystery of the stars and all things old and weathered. She loved to instill in her children and grandchildren her delights in nature’s beauty and the quirkiness of human kind. Adeline marched to a different drummer. Her interests included watching and feeding birds, gardening and flowers, playing pitch, writing letters, crossword puzzles, reading everything available to her, and keeping a record of family history.
Adeline passed away Friday morning at the Hill Top Estates Nursing Home in Gothenburg, NE. She was 91 years of age.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Antone; sisters Agnes Spelts, Helen Sierra and Mary Kerchal; and three half-brothers James, Edward and William Jirik.
Survivors Include: Son: Kenneth (Tiny) Berry and wife, Anne, of Denver, CO Daughter: Shirley Schweitzer, of Sterling, CO Son: Don Berry and Special Friend, Ann, of Cozad, NE 2 Grandchildren: Anita Weida and husband Paul of Lee’s Summit, Missouri Ivan Schweitzer and wife Tami of Brighton, Colorado Sister: Bessie Kerchal of Ogallala, NE Cousin: Vaclar Nejdl of Czechoslovakia Many nieces and nephews Her wonderful companion “Sugar” her white cat.
Graveside Services for Adeline Dixon will be held Tuesday afternoon, September 27, 2011, 2:00 P.M. at Riverside Cemetery, Wauneta, NE, with Pastor Bonnie McCord officiating.
Private Family Visitation Only
A memorial has been established to the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals.
