Joyce Grimm
Joyce Katherine (Vlasin) Grimm was born July 15, 1944, in Imperial, Nebraska, to Otis Edward and Lena Jean (Felt) Vlasin. Joyce grew up in southwest Nebraska until age 10 when the family moved to Denver, Colorado. She was baptized at the Resurrection of Our Lord Catholic Church in Elsie, Nebraska, and confirmed on December 16, 1973, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Englewood, Colorado. Joyce graduated from South High School in Denver in 1962.
On October 16, 1971, Joyce married Edward A. Grimm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Denver. Joyce was employed as secretary for Rev. Frederick F. Hahn until his retirement in 1978. She then began working for The Travelers Insurance Company, Financial Services until 1994. Joyce and Edward resided in the Denver metro area until September 9, 1999, when Edward retired and they moved to Wauneta, Nebraska. Joyce was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wauneta, Nebraska. She served in various church officer positions and was very active in community affairs. Joyce respected and admired her parents and Rev. Frederick F. Hahn. She loved spending time with her family and she also enjoyed gardening and reading.
Joyce passed away on June 29, 2018, at her home in Wauneta, Nebraska. She was 73 years of age.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Allen; parents, Otis E. and Lena J. Vlasin; sister, Gloria Jean Richardson and brother-in-law, Daniel; brother, Edward Otis Vlasin; brother-in-law, Gary D. Grimm; nephews, Dwayne D. Richardson and James P. Beacham Jr.
Survivors include:
Stepchildren: Elizabeth Ann (Grimm) Piercey and Edward Gary Grimm.
Step-granddaughters: Melissa Ann Grimm and Emily Lauren Piercey.
Step-grandsons: Kyle Edward Grimm and Blake Grimm.
Sister: Deanna Dorothy Beacham and husband James.
Sister: Beverly June Haskins and husband Steven.
Sister-in-law: Mary Vlasin.
Sister-in-law: Marcy Grimm.
Many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Joyce will be held Tuesday, July 3, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. (MT), at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Wauneta, Nebraska, with Pastor David McCarthy and Pastor Keith Wellman officiating. Interment will follow at the Madrid Cemetery, Madrid, Nebraska, at 2:00 p.m. (MT).
Joyce chose no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Joyce’s memory to Christ’s Church for the purpose of educating new pastors and teachers.
